The Devil Is In The Details
“Quality, quality,” she said in her authentic East Coast accent heavily influenced by years of the females before her.
Although it’s been nearly two decades, I’ll never forget her seemingly innocent words and the profound resonation I felt hearing them.
You see, at that point, I was in what I call my “foot in the door” stage. I had experienced so much in my short time on earth that I could not help but to start asking, why? So much in fact, that I took it upon myself (along with every brick wall I could bang my head on) to figure out what in the hell are we supposed to be doing in this life?
And her words were all that I needed to connect the dots.
See, it’s not about ‘things’ or ‘experiences’ or ‘feelings’ alone. There has to be some meat (keep calm my vegan buds) behind the life that we live.
There has to be quality in our life, or else the things, experiences and feelings are well…well they are completely worthless to our souls (drama needed for quality impact). Yeah, they may appease the physical, but not for long. Prime example: the billionaire that turns into a philanthropist. They had it all, until they realized they did not have it all.
If you are still behind the scenes, presenting the ever popular “you should just be happy that xyz is in your life”. I’ll let you have your rebuttal, but I beg you to read this post again under a different set of eyes. Here’s why (simplicity rules). You’ve been hugged before, yes? The hug that is the ‘pat, pat and now be on your way’. The hug that is expected from a tipsy acquaintance, but this one came from your significant other. BOOM. Instant results for poor quality.
I can guarantee the hug you get from your SO that makes your toes tingle with loving energy is one you remember and reflect back on to judge almost every single hug from then on out. Why? Because it had magnetic energy that was matched perfectly. The quality was there.
Now, because I love a good debate, I will also show my support of the “good enough to get it done” mode. Mostly because this mode allows us to get over the heaps of shit that we like to surround ourselves with & make the loveliest excuses out of…but again, this is about balancing those episodes.
Don’t let the “good enough” rule your life. Want more for yourself. Give more of yourself. If you are spreading yourself too thin (hel-lo upcoming holidays), take a step back and allow yourself permission to focus only on the ones that make your toes tingle.
Live your life with quality that fulfills your dreams to become your reality.
Your toes and your soul will be happy.
